Yogesh the Giver of Light

Well here we are a new week and that means time to reflect on what that Titan of Trivia Yogesh is like in real life. Sure the world has now gotten to bask in his tremendous glow for 3 impressive Jeopardy victories last week but his prowess behind the podium pales to his exploits in other endeavors.

Yogesh has been driven by not only a desire to learn since he was a young boy but also understands that with great knowledge comes great responsibility. As such he has not only accumulated this knowledge he freely shares it with the world. He does this through his internationally read blog "The Wronger Box" and his much-lauded podcast "Recreational Thinking". If you haven't listened yet you should download it and I promise you it will be unlike anything you've experienced before. The amount of knowledge Yogesh shares on a daily basis with those less learned than he is impressive but he doesn't just want to impart the knowledge he also wants to make sure that all the people he has met on his journey are remembered. Yogesh doesn't seek the spotlight for himself but as a means to continue to give to the world and elevate others.

You need to look no further than his contestant interviews for proof of his generosity. While he could easily have talked about his own accomplishments and highlights of his life he chose instead to talk of other trivia luminaries and how much they've accomplished. I mean he brings up James "Jamie"  Holzhauer in his first interview and mentions James competing in quiz bowl I mean sure he lost to Yogesh but he shared that moment with another which is really the kind of guy Yogesh is. Selfless to the core. Not to be outdone in his 2nd interview he spread even more trivia love by mentioning Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter and how they have all competed. Of course, today was his 4th day and he brought out a real tear-jerker of a story. He praised the legendary India Cooper.

Unlike many big names in the trivia community, India was actually loved and kept in high regard by all who met her. She was a lovely woman and I myself even got the chance to meet her, and much like her interaction with Yogesh, she told me what a fan she was of me. I mean I didn't have an internationally read blog like Yogesh but I was fairly active in trivia spaces and she knew who I was and I was humbled by that acknowledgment, but I must admit it didn't have quite the same effect on me as it did on Yogesh. Yogesh mentioned on today's episode how he met India in 2019 I will assume at Trivia Nationals in August and how India told him she was a big fan of his. When Ken heard this he thought it was wonderful that she had heard of his quiz bowl accomplishments but Yogesh mentioned that she was also a big fan of his blog and podcast which was truly amazing because this encounter happened in August of 2019 which is a few months before Yogesh actually had a podcast, but really that is no surprise because Yogesh isn't bound by the same rules of time and space as the rest of us. No Yogesh transcends these boundaries and creates content that even those not yet born can enjoy.

Now even though today marked the end of Yogesh'a historic Jeopardy run I have no intentions of stopping this blog. I want the word of Yogesh to be spread far and wide. I want him to touch as many people as he can and I want those that read these words to be inspired by his actions. For if we can not be Yogesh we can learn from him, we can emulate him, and we can appreciate him for the brilliant and kind soul that he is.

In the spirit of Dr. King judge not Yogesh by the color of his skin but rather by the content of his character and I think you too like me will come to only one conclusion.
