The Legend of Yogesh

Welcome to The Wrongest Box, your home for everything Yogesh all the time.

Who is Yogesh? Why would somebody start a blog dedicated to just one man? Why should you care? And why is it called "The Wrongest Box"? Read on and you shall find out.

Yogesh is a simple man, a mere human by most accounts, but he is so much more than that. He is a man who has dedicated his life to becoming the greatest trivia player the world has ever known. He has dedicated decades to mastering the mundane, to amassing more knowledge than any mere mortal should possess. But he doesn't do it for himself. He does it for the world. He does it for you and for me and for all of the lesser minds out there so that we can bask in the glow of his brilliance.

How did this man get his start? What is his motivation? How does he remember all those facts? In the coming weeks, days and months, I hope to do a deep dive into all of these questions. But for now, let's just cover a few things.

Who is Yogesh? Well, as of January 14, 2023, he is the reigning three-day “Jeopardy!” champion, and with his background and knowledge there is no telling how long his run may last. But he is more than just a mere “Jeopardy!” champion. He is a legend within the Quiz Bowl community. He once led his high school quiz bowl team to two state championships and he beat another “Jeopardy!” legend on his way to those crowns.

Yogesh is also a blogger. In fact, the title of this very blog is an homage to Yogesh's internationally read and respected blog. His blog is "The Wronger Box," so it felt only fitting that this tribute be called “The Wrongest Box.” On his blog, Yogesh shares facts every day. But he doesn't just share facts. He tells stories of people and places from years ago, and relaying those stories is not a burden Yogesh takes lightly. In fact, it haunts him to wonder if his carrying on the stories of men like Baltus Roll might have given comfort to them in life. Nobody understands the responsibility and burden Yogesh carries more than Yogesh.

Yogesh isn't just a blogger, either. He is also a gifted writer, editor and now podcaster. In fact, he has established himself as a top-tier writer/editor/blogger and podcaster, and if you don't think that's true, well, just ask him, or better yet listen to his podcast, "Recreational Thinking.” When it is over, you will be very glad. In fact, he isn't just top-tier when it comes to writing and editing questions. He is one of the world's best writers-editors of quizzing questions. Again: If you doubt that, all you need to do is ask Yogesh and he will tell you.

Yogesh has inspired so many people over the years in quizzing, trivia and academia. I should know. I have gotten to spend time with him over the years and play side by side with him as a teammate and, at times, even against him as an opponent. In future blog entries, I will regale you with tales of our times together. But for now, let’s all sit back and enjoy Yogesh's run on “Jeopardy!” and be grateful for the fact we are able to witness the public coronation of this immense talent.
